Programs for young people to participate in community
The Queensland Government is committed to supporting strong communities where all people are safe, valued and empowered, wherever they live, whatever their circumstances. Young people in Queensland are important contributors to the social fabric, playing leadership, organisational and significant roles in the development of culture and community.
The Youth Participation Strategy spells out the Queensland Government's committment to providing young people (aged 15-25 years) with opportunities to participate in their communities.
The Community Participation section of Generate plays host to a range of opportunities for young people to get involved in community leadership activity.
- The Young Indigenous Leaders Forum brings together twenty young Indigenous men and women (aged 18-25 years) to learn about leadership and explore ideas and opportunities for work within their communities.
- National Youth Week is an Australia-wide celebration of the value of all young Australians to their communities.
- The Grants and Funding section hosts the Office for Youth's Youth Engagement Grants as well as links to several other useful grants databases.
- Local youth councils give young people a voice in their local government and provide a forum for councils to seek the input and advice of young people.
- The 2007 Youth Conference was held in June. Presentations and information from the conference is available here.
- The Duke of Edinburgh's Award empowers young people to set and reach their personal, educational, and career goals as well as develop leadership and life skills.
