Local youth councils are made up of young people from a diverse range of backgrounds who are eager to participate in civic life. Local youth councils give young people a voice in their local government and provide a forum for councils to seek the input and advice of young people. They also provide an opportunity for young people to learn about local government.
The Local Government Association of Queensland is an organisation that works to strengthen the ability and performance of local government to better serve the community.
The Local Government Association of Queensland, in partnership with the State Government, actively encourages young people to contribute, participate, and engage in the development and implementation of policy, programs, opportunities, and services that directly impact upon young people and their communities.
LGAQ also works with local government to implement and expand opportunities for young people to actively or more fully participate in their local communities.
One of the ways that the LGAQ works with communities and young people is through local youth councils.
