The Queensland Government's eDemocracy initiatives use information and communication technologies such as the Internet, and digital and mobile phone technologies in democratic processes. eDemocracy initiatives provide more opportunities for people to access information and have their say, at a time and place which is convenient to them.
A petition is a direct request to Parliament that enables citizens to have their say about issues that are important to them. Through the E-Petitions Queensland Parliament website (www.parliament.qld.gov.au/petitions) Queenslanders can view, start and sign an ePetition, track the process of an individual petition, and can keep informed about the government's response to the ePetition once it has been tabled by a Minister in Parliament.
The Internet broadcast of Queensland Parliament (www.parliament.qld.gov.au/broadcast ) features live audio transmission of parliamentary proceedings occurring in the Queensland Legislative Assembly Chamber (the state's only House of Parliament). The audio broadcast is accompanied by a photograph of the current speaker and captioning information to advise users of the stage of the proceedings.
ConsultQld on the Get involved website (www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au/consultqld) is a direct link to government for all Queensland people about key issues that are being considered.
The Get involved community engagement website (www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au) has information about how government works, why and how to get involved in government decision-making and get active in the community. The site includes information about government grants and volunteering and guides and research about community engagement practice.
