Queensland Youth Council

What is the Queensland youth council?

The Queensland Youth Council provides a forum for the exchange of information and views between young people and the Queensland Government to assist the development of policies, programs, and services that impact the lives of young Queenslanders.

The council reports to the Minister for Communities, Disability Services, Seniors and Youth. The council is a major part of the Queensland Government's youth participation strategy, which provides opportunities for young people to engage with their communities and the Queensland Government.

The Queensland Youth Council replaces the previous State Youth Advisory Council as the advisory body on youth issues to the Minister responsible for Youth.  Established in 2000, the State Youth Advisory Council was the first ministerial council of young people. A review of SYAC took place at the end of its second term in September 2004 and the council has subsequently been remodelled to form the Queensland Youth Council.
