Queensland Youth Council

What are some examples of the Queensland Youth Council's work?

The Queensland Youth Council informs the government about issues relevant to young Queenslanders.  Each term, the Council will focus on priority areas for young people in the State.  The councils 2005-2007 key priority areas were:

  • Prevention and early intervention strategies
  • Volatile substance misuse
  • Youth homelessness
  • Diverting young people from the juvenile justice system
  • The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and other like programs
  • Volunteering

Priorities for the 2008-2010 term will be informed by the new council.

Previous Councils have also provided leadership in the development of the Queensland youth charter: the Queensland Government's commitment to engaging with young people. The Queensland Government uses the charter as a guide to involve young people in developing policies, programs, and services.

The history and achievements of other previous councils (SYAC) are available.
