The State Youth Advisory Council operated in Queensland from 2000 to 2004 and is an excellent example of a state wide youth council. The State Youth Advisory Council was a group of young people who provided advice to the Queensland Government on issues of importance to young people and worked to increase young people's participation in government decision-making and community life. The State Youth Advisory Council was developed as a part of the Queensland Government Youth Participation Strategy and ran for two terms of two years from 2000 - 2002 and 2002 - 2004.
In 2005 the former State Youth Advisory Council has been replaced by the new Queensland Youth Council. The 2005 - 2007 Queensland Youth Council is a little different, but continues to work as an advisory body on youth issues to the Minister for Youth.
