Queensland Youth Charter revised edition

The Youth Charter outlines the values and principles essential to the effective engagement of young people aged 12 to 25 years in policy, program and service development.

The Youth Charter was endorsed by Cabinet in 2002, and has been revised in 2006. Each Queensland Government department is required to report annually on the actions developed and processes used to include young people in their policy, program and service development.

The Office for Youth will report this information to the Minister for Communities, Disability Services, Seniors and Youth and the Queensland Youth Council for consideration.  A framework has been developed to guide this reporting process for 2006.

Responses provided by each Queensland department against the framework will enable the Minister for Communities, Disability Services, Seniors and Youth to:

  • identify current government achievements in relation to the Queensland Youth Charter and the use of the GENERATE youth website;
  • identify and promote good practice; and
  • develop and progress a whole-of-government improvement plan aimed at enhancing young peoples participation in government decision making processes.

A PDF version of the Youth Charter is now available for download in the Publications section of the Generate Library. A direct link to it has been provided below for your convenience:

GENERATE is the online component of the Queensland Government's Youth Participation Strategy. The site provides an avenue for communication between Government and young people and provides opportunities for Queensland government agencies to meet their obligations under the Queensland Youth Charter.
