The Australian Cinémathèque presents Coming of Age

15 June - 8 July

One of the defining narratives in Australian cinema is the transition from adolescence to adulthood.

The Australian Cinémathèque presents a program of Australian ‘coming of age’ films from the past three decades. The films capture aspects of identity particular to recent Australian history.

They engage with cultural difference, Indigenous Australia and relationships to land and place, often with heartache and humour.

This program celebrates the sophisticated storytelling within this genre of Australian cinema and includes some of Australia’s most acclaimed titles, directors and actors.

Films include Picnic at Hanging Rock 1975, My Brilliant Career 1979, Muriel’s Wedding 1994, Head On 1998, Beneath Clouds 2002 and Somersault 2004.

For film notes and screening details please visit the Gallery website or pick up a copy of the free Australian Cinémathèque calendar from the Gallery. Screening times are also listed in the Preview events calendar.

Admission is free. Please note the Australian Cinémathèque has late opening hours when evening screenings are scheduled. Doors open 20 minutes prior to screening start times.
