Aviation focussed state high school calls for students

An exciting new secondary school in Brisbane is providing great opportunities for students who are passionate about a career in aviation.

Aviation High was established to support Queenslands growing aviation industry by providing high-quality and relevant education and training for students in Years 8 to 12.

By working with Aviation Australia, universities, training providers and industry, Aviation High is providing students with a direct pathway to careers in the aviation and aerospace industry.

Aviation High offers broad mainstream school subjects as well as studies relevant to various careers in the aviation industry, from caterers and cabin crew to pilots, meteorologists, aviation lawyers and engineers.

In Years 8 and 9, students study the same or similar subjects studied at other high schools but with an aviation focus where appropriate.

For example, Technology students may learn about hi-tech developments in aircraft construction, while in Studies of Society and the Environment they may look at the history of flight and its impact on society.

Senior students study core subjects like English and Mathematics. They also have the opportunity to pursue elective subjects that are designed to support a variety of aviation careers.

An information evening for students entering Year 11 in 2008 will be held at the school, located at Widdop Street, Clayfield, at 6.00 pm Tuesday 18 September.
Bookings can be made by phoning 07 3637 0111, or by visiting the Aviation High website.
