Youth Week competition now open

Get creative and win big for Youth Week 2008 Online competition

Prize money of $2,000 or a laptop computer is up for grabs in the Shout Share Live Unite online competition launched today as part of the lead up to Youth Week.

All young Queenslanders aged between 12-25 are encouraged to express their views or perspectives on a particular issue or community that they are involved in.

Minister for Youth, Lindy Nelson-Carr said the inaugural online competition was the first of its kind where young Queenslanders could participate no matter where in Queensland they live.

Ms Nelson-Carr said the Government understood the importance of listening to and engaging with young people and hearing the issues that affect them.

"The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow, what better way to get involved in society than to talk to government about what affects them.

"The online competition is about using a variety of ways of interacting with youth through methods very familiar to them.

"Whether it be in the form of film, animation, song or written word the competition encourages all forms of creativity to be displayed by simply getting online and uploading their entries onto Generate."

Ms Nelson-Carr said she expected the competition to be fierce with many young people already using this type of technology to communicate with their peers.

Two winners in the junior category (12-17 years) will be selected to receive a laptop computer, while two cash prizes of $2000 will go to the winners in the senior category (18-25 years).

An online gallery of entries will be hosted on Generate to showcase young people's diverse talents and opinions to the whole community.

The competition opens today and entries close at 5pm Wednesday 30th April with winners to be announced in May.
