Our commitment to privacy

We are committed to protecting your privacy and collect, store, use, and disclose personal information responsibly and transparently when we deliver government services and conduct government business.

We understand that visitors and users of the Generate website are concerned about their privacy and the confidentiality and security of information that is provided to us.

The Queensland Government has introduced Information Standard No. 42 Information Privacy, which outlines its privacy policy for the Queensland public sector. This information standard is based on 11 information privacy principles, which we must comply with.

Information collected on Generate

Unless you specifically tell us, the Generate website will never know who you are.

When you visit the Generate site our web measurement tool and Internet Service Providers record anonymous information for statistical purposes only, including:

  • the type of browser, computer platform and screen resolution  you are using
  • your traffic patterns through our site such as:
  • the date and time of your visit to the site
  • the pages you accessed and documents downloaded
  • the previous page you visited prior to accessing our site
  • the Internet address of the server accessing our site
  • access to information collected

Our web measurement software uses cookies when collecting this information.

No attempt is or will be made to identify your personal details except in the event of an investigation when a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect our service providers' logs.

We use your IP (Internet Protocol) address to administer our Web site and to help identify any problems with our server. We also use cookies to store critical information on your computer related to some of the transactional services available from this site.

The Generate web site uses cookies for the "flavour switcher" and "email this page to a friend" feature. Information stored in these cookies includes only variables associated with the chosen flavour and chosen page that you are emailing to a friend. No personal information is stored in these cookies.

We do not collect your name unless it is part of your email address, or you use it on a forum session. Any personal information collected will be used only for the purpose specified at the time it is collected.

Generate can however, use your chosen display name, or published author name from a post or article you have submitted.

We will not add your name and address details to a mailing list unless you specifically request this. We will not disclose these details to third parties unless we have your consent or we are required to do so by law.

Because this is a Queensland Government website, we treat correspondence that is emailed to us as a public record and retain it in accordance with the Public Records Act 2002 and relevant regulations.

Email and feedback information

Email from you will be treated as a public record and will be retained as required by the Public Records Act 2002 and other relevant regulations.

We will not add any details from your email to a mailing list, and we will not disclose these details to third parties without your consent, unless required by law. We will disclose your email details to the relevant authorities if necessary to protect the safety of the public or to protect the rights and property of the State of Queensland.

Our Internet Service Provider may monitor email traffic for system trouble shooting and maintenance purposes only.

Providing feedback to us through email does not in any way affect your access to Queensland Government websites.

Security

We have security measures in place on some of our internet transactions to protect the information you send us against loss, misuse and alteration. These security measures ensure the privacy of information while it is transmitted through the Internet.

This website provides secure transmission facilities when you subscribe to our email list. Other transaction provided on Generate do not provide open access facilities for the secure transmission of information across the Internet. You are advised that there can be risks with transmitting information across the Internet.

Generate's servers are housed in secure facilities with access restricted to authorised personnel.

This site contains links to non-Queensland Government websites. The Queensland Government is not responsible for the privacy or security practices or the content of such websites.
